Well, it's Wed night and we leave on the expedition 5am on Friday. We were presented with a little surprise yesterday. . . the same one we had last year. The main computer crashed with all of our new presentation material on it. We were just about to back everything up and the hard drive died.
It is actually pretty comical. As I write this 6 of us, 3 snowkiters and 3 education crew members, are sitting on the ground of our headquarter space (a storage room at NHRG in the Grand Cities Mall in Grand Forks), cooking on a backpacking stove, passing around the Matte, and listening to Real Big Fish. Sleeping bags, kites cut up for windsocks, Mukluks, ski boots boxes and Nalgenes are strewn everywhere and we are laughing and catching up on last minute work.
I can't help but think that I am super lucky to have such a great crew. So many people in this last minute crunch would be a little cranky, but there are only optimistic high spirits here. Like my dad always said, "Expect the worst and hope for the best".
